Lesson 8 Delicious

Wow... I'd heard of this site, but never visitied it before now. I'll definately begin using this once things slows down. I don't know how many times i've reformatted my computer and lost my bookmarks, or found something at home that i would like to use at work and didn't have the bookmark available there!

I didn't look a lot, but did a couple of searches and found some interesting sites that i would probably not have found as quickly!

Lesson 7 Social Networking

I'm not a social person per say on the internet, but did get an account set up on Facebook. I was really frustrated with it as everytime i tried to login, my password wasn't valid and i had to reset it. (Yes, i DID write it down!!) I couldn't search for people by city - which i wanted to do, so didn't add anyone. I doubt i will ever use it so it's another wasted effort.

I can see the benefits of a Library using social networking to publicize events and to create a positive library experience but someone would have to be in charge of updating. I could also see the Braille & Talking Book Library as using it for newsletters and posting information so our Web people could keep up on the news.

Lesson 6 - Office 2.0

I looked at Zoho writer, but it required another account and i didn't feel like doing that, so found google docs (the link in the 2.0 challenge went to a wetpaint site that require an invite and since i procrastinated to long, didn't want to do that either(, so found documents on google where i didn't have to create another account! Whew!!! I uploaded something from my computer, and played around a bit but didn't save it or share it.. since my blog isn't listed on the 2.0 challenge i thought it was a mute point!

i can see where it would be a good thing to have an address database where friends and family would be able to change their info as needed, but can't see many of my family partaking, so that probably isn't going to happen. Maybe someday something else will come up that it will usefull for.

Lesson 5 - Podcast

I'm really frustrated.. I located a book review & a phtotoshop tutorial which i wanted to subscribe to the RSS feed but... of course had to create an account - which is where the frustration came into play.. I got everything filled in and clicked the signup button and nothing... nada... zip... in my frustration, i closed the webpage and decided i definately will not be using podcasting. I can't say i even found anything else that was remotely interesting. I have a very short attention span today.. to much focus on the grandson i guess!!

I did find some interesting videos on YouTube. One of which is shared here somewhere..

Lesson 5 - Video

Hmm.. i was surprised that embedding the video wasn't so difficult. As someone somewhere (blogs listed on the challenge or elsewhere) mentioned a video could be used as a virtual tour, or in the case of the Dirty Job presentation of last week, it could be used to change a person's thoughts of what it's like in a library.

I thought this was cute...

A person can spend a LOT of time looking at things on YouTube. Seemed like i watched a ga-zillion!!

Introducing...

Jayden Joe-my grandson from Sioux Falls. He's a little over 6 months old, and I am enjoying him VERY MUCH!! Mom won't like it, but he's getting spoiled rotten! This a granny's job though and I think I'm doing it very well!! LOL

More Flickr thoughts (Lesson 4b)

I put the banner that was made with one of the Flickr tools and it didn't stretch across the whole banner so i deleted it. *sigh*.. maybe i'll play with it more, maybe i'll play with other things too, but right now i think i just need to get caught up with the next lessons. This challenge will be over before i even get started!

I will say i've learned some things (a LOT of things i didn't know), but am just not sure i will ever use them, other than to look at, except for RSS. I plan to use that as a way to not waste so much time going to favorite links. (Most of the time they are so disorganized i can't find what i want to look at anyway!)
